VOB Blog shares the journey of Voices of Birralee, Brisbane-based non-profit child and youth choral organisation, through national and international tour diaries, conductor insights, singing tips and much more.
Founded in 1995 by Artistic Director Julie Christiansen, OAM, Voices of Birralee comprises six ensembles (with a seventh annual adult project choir), which have attained a remarkable level of professionalism and are highly acclaimed by national and international audiences. The organisation caters for approximately 400 young people aged between five and 35 years. Our organisation believes in providing children and young people with rewarding singing experiences both onstage and beyond the concert hall. Our activities focus on the provision of positive life experiences which allow them to move forward into adulthood as competent and confident human beings.

I watched the ABC’s broadcast of today’s Dawn Service at the ANM. The Birralee choristers, previously unknown to me, sang so beautifully that I simply had to find out who they were and whence they came. I have just finished reading your blog—and listening to the all-too-short snippets of recordings, too—which compels me to offer congratulations to all concerned, choristers, conductor, composer, ADs and all. The singers’ contributions were outstanding, and helped to ensure that the whole event came together as a balanced, moving and memorable ceremony.
